New Exhibition! Outside In
We are very excited to welcome you to our next guest exhibition put together by Migrant Voice Glasgow. The photographic exhibition celebrates the people from across the globe who have made Scotland their home, and enrich the country with their traditions, skills, and ideas. Outside In features people from 21 countries, from across the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania, exploring how migrants have influenced different areas of life, from fashion to tea brewing and yoga. Visitors can not only learn but also contribute their insights about migrant communities and Scottish links to other countries.
Migrant Voice is a migrant-led organisation, putting migrant voices at the centre of the migration debate by developing the skills and confidence of migrants. They work with migrants from all around the world with all kinds of status, including refugees and asylum seekers.
The launch celebration will take place on Friday 6th December at 6pm here at the Halls. Please register here so we have an idea of numbers for the opening. The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm until Friday 21st February 2025.
Tracy’s Tree - Annual Christmas Tree Light Switch On
The annual Tracy’s Tree light switch on will take place this Saturday from 6pm with warm drinks, carols and a pipe band. Now in its 9th year, this initiative was started by Jackie Lennox in honour of her late sister Tracy. Tracy’s Tree is a remembrance tree for the whole Maryhill community. The tree is decorated with baubles etched with names of loved ones who are no longer with us.
Maryhill has a comic book!
In the last year, we worked with Paul Bristow of Magic Torch Comic and Shona Cowie of Village Storytelling Centre to create the very first comic dedicated to the history of Maryhill. Through workshops with the community and a local schools, we are very pleased to present you the final product. You can find it online here.
