Hello,
This is the first newsletter of our new mailing list. Thank you for signing up for occasional updates and news related to Maryhill Burgh Halls. The theme for this newsletter is ‘Fundraising and Support’.
The Nolly Café Closes
We unfortunately start out with some sad news. Due to financial constraints, Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust has taken the very difficult decision to close The Nolly Café for the foreseeable future. We have deeply appreciated every single customer, whether you popped in for lunch or booked our catering service for your event. We would never have come as far as we have in the previous 15 months without the support of our community and the hard work of our café team. Sadly, the current financial climate has made trading very difficult and so we’ve disappointingly had to close The Nolly for the time being. However, we do hope that we can eventually re-open in future so please keep your eyes open for updates.
Our Fundraising Campaign
With the current financial crisis affecting all aspects of our organisation - not just our café - we have started a fundraising campaign. Although it can be difficult to ask for help, we have been completely overwhelmed by the support of our community. So many people have been so generous in their donations so far and we’re very close to our original £5,000 target. Any and all donations are appreciated and make a difference, but if you can afford to donate £7.50 - which works out at 2p per day, for a year - we would be very grateful. You can donate via our Just Giving Page here. If you’re a UK tax payer, your donation is also eligible for Gift Aid at no additional cost to you. For details and a downloadable Gift Aid declaration form, please see the donations page on our website. A huge thank you if you have donated already - your contribution has made a difference. If you are unable to donate, sharing our fundraiser on your social media is also a big help.
Easy Fundraising
Another simple way to support us, is to sign up to easyfundraising. If you shop online, many retailers will donate a percentage of your purchases to us, at no additional cost to you. It’s very easy to sign up and you can even download an app for your phone or browser, which will remind you every time you visit the website of an eligible retailer. You can sign up at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/maryhillburghhalls/.
Visting The Halls
We’re currently working hard on our next exhibition - details to be revealed soon - after the runaway success of The George Ward Collection. However, just because there isn’t a current exhibition running, doesn’t mean you can’t still visit the Halls!
We are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm and if the Main Hall isn’t occupied for an event, one of our volunteers will be very happy to show you our Historic Stained Glass which adorns the windows. We also have a small collection of artefacts on display in our foyer, including some of the items which were displayed as part of The George Ward Collection. You can even pick up some souvenirs in our gift shop, including the original prints from our last exhibition. Our volunteers will be happy to greet you upon arrival at Reception.
The George Ward Collection Videos
If you missed the George Ward Collection exhibition, or would just like a reminder of it, we have now put a video walkthrough of the exhibition online. Additionally, we have uploaded half of the videos which were on display, with the other half to follow.
These can now be viewed exclusively via our YouTube channel with a dedicated playlist available here.
That’s all for this edition of our newsletter - thanks again for signing up and supporting us!
